For Dublin Coffman quarterback Mason Maggs, becoming an Ohio State Buckeye has been a life-long dream.
It will become a reality. Maggs, the son of former Ohio State offensive lineman Bob Maggs, has committed to Ohio State as a preferred walk-on.

"I just thought Ohio State presented me the best opportunity to succeed as a man and at the next level," Maggs told The Dispatch. "I've been a Buckeye my whole life. I'm so excited to carry that on."
So is his father, who played in the 1980s.
"He's texting all of his former teammates, so it's really cool," Maggs said. "It's really special."
Maggs, who's listed at 6 feet 3 and 210 pounds, joins a quarterback room depleted by transfer departures. Quinn Ewers, the top-rated player in the 2022 recruiting class before enrolling last summer, has transferred to Texas. Walk-ons Jagger LaRoe and J.P. Andrade also left. LaRoe recently committed to play for Texas A&M Commerce.

That has left incumbent C.J. Stroud, sophomore Kyle McCord and incoming freshman Devin Brown as the only quarterbacks on the roster.
With the Buckeyes, Maggs' role is likely to be as a scout-team quarterback simulating the upcoming opponent.
"I'm definitely up for it," he said. "Whatever the team needs. If I need to make the defense better playing scout, I'm all for it."
As a senior last year, Maggs passed for 1,786 yards and ran for 861 for the Shamrocks, who went 4-8. He completed 62% of his passes.
It was his first season playing quarterback primarily. Until then, Maggs primarily played wide receiver. Maggs is unranked by the major recruiting sites.

He said he had Division II scholarship offers from Findlay, Ohio Dominican, Hillsdale and Lake Erie College. Ohio University also offered him as a preferred walk-on.
Maggs, who said his grade point average is just under 4.0, plans to major in biology. He will enroll in June.
Maggs becomes the second Coffman player to commit to the Buckeyes recently, following defensive lineman Will Smith Jr., the son of the late former Buckeye star defensive end.
"It's awesome," Maggs said. "I was actually at Ohio State last week and I saw him. Will is one of my better friends, and I think he's a hell of a player. I'm really excited that he's going to be a Buckeye."
