Florida A&M quarterback Daniel Richardson's playing status for this Saturday versus Mississippi Valley State is up in the air.
At Tuesday morning's practice, Rattlers head coach James Colzie III said that his quarterback's concussion is being assessed "day by day." Richardson sustained the concussion on a sack in the first quarter of FAMU's 31-12 loss at Prairie View A&M last Saturday.
If Richardson doesn't play versus MVSU, Junior Muratovic will likely start in his place.
"We're going to evaluate him every single day," Colzie said.
During the Rattlers' padded Tuesday practice, Richardson wore a blue non-contact jersey and shorts with no helmet or shoulder pads. Richardson did not participate in practice.
"He was wearing a blue jersey today. I don't know what our color combination will be Saturday, but when it's blue, that means they can't play," Colzie said. "We'll take it day by day."
As a graduate student, Richardson transferred to FAMU for his final college football season after stints at Central Michigan and Florida Atlantic, where he also started as a quarterback. For the Rattlers, Richardson has completed 180 of 260 passes (69 percent) for 2,030 yards and 19 touchdowns against seven interceptions.
Richardson is amongst the statistical leaderboards in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and the Football Championship Subdivision. He also has been selected to play in the HBCU Legacy Bowl in February.
Muratovic, a redshirt junior, completed 16 of 29 passes (55 percent) for 150 yards, passed for a touchdown and threw two interceptions after relieving Richardson versus Prairie View A&M.
FAMU (5-4, 3-2 in SWAC) and MVSU (0-10, 0-6 in SWAC) will meet Saturday at 1 p.m. on Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium. HBCU Go will televise the game, and the Rattlers Plus mobile app will host its audio broadcast.
