Florida A&M is ready to commit to Patrick Crarey II leading its men's basketball program for multiple years.
On Wednesday, FAMU's Board of Trustees approved a recommendation by Vice President and Director of Athletics Angela Suggs for a two-year extension worth $330,000 for the Rattlers' head men's basketball coach.

Crarey's contract extension includes a salary of $160,000 during the 2025-2026 athletic year and then increases to $170,000 for the 2026-2027 season.
Crarey was hired as FAMU's 15th head men's basketball coach by former Vice President and Director of Athletics Tiffani-Dawn Sykes last April from St. Thomas University. Crarey was the head men's basketball coach and assistant athletic director for the Miami Gardens-based NAIA school.

Crarey originally signed a one-year contract worth $150,000 with incentives after the FAMU Board of Trustees raised concerns about his capabilities, among other issues , with the Rattlers being his first NCAA Division I head coaching job.

"Although the contract adds some additional expense to future budgets, the contract also adds stability for future year planning purposes, extending contracts now that may prove to be more cost-efficient," Suggs told the FAMU Board of the Trustees.
"And the largest bonus opportunity provided is directly tied to revenue generation (game guarantees)," she added.
Since then, Crarey has led the Rattlers to a 10-12 overall record and 7-4 in Southwestern Athletic Conference games. FAMU has won seven of its last eight games under Crarey and tied for third place in the SWAC standings .
Patrick Crarey II was hired as Florida A&M's 15th head men's basketball coach on April 17, 2024. The Washington D.C. native was previously the head men's basketball coach and assistant athletic director at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The Rattlers can rise in the SWAC rankings as they play Jackson State (8-16, 8-3 in SWAC) for FAMU's basketball homecoming game at the Al Lawson Center this Saturday. FAMU men's basketball will finish its week hosting Alcorn State (7-17, 7-4 in SWAC) on Monday, Feb. 16.
