The Guardians will likely be without David Fry to begin the 2025 season.
The club announced Monday that Fry underwent surgery to repair a "chronically insufficient" ulnar collateral ligament with a resolving flexor strain in his right elbow. The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, Texas, last week.
David Fry injury rehab schedule
Fry's return to game action has a few different timelines. His rehab schedule calls for a possible return to hitting in the 6- to 8-month range, meaning he's likely begin the 2025 season on the injured list.
In terms of playing the field, and especially catching, that rehab timetable is around the 12-month mark. That means Fry likely won't play the field and will be limited to duty as a designated hitter in 2025, which will cut down on the flexibility manager Stephen Vogt has when writing the lineups.
