It may not be 1991 anymore, but a well-executed two-pad stack is still a beautiful thing.
Luckily for those who yearn for the good old days of awkwardly beautiful goaltending, Henrik Lundqvist happened to have his time machine on hand Saturday night against the Sabres and blessed us with a stack for the ages:
After newly-acquired Sabres forward Jeff Skinner threw down a couple nifty moves and feathered a pretty backhand, cross-crease feed to Evan Rodrigues , King Henrik was a second late with his push across but let the old-school dog out of the cage and recovered with a glorious, roll-over pad stack — kicking the puck into oblivion with the toe of his skate.
Unfortunately for the Rangers, no amount of retro magic from Lundqvist could help on this night as they fell to the upstart Sabres 3-1 despite Hank's 26-save (.929 Sv%) effort.
