A pair of NHL stars were hit with two-game suspensions on Sunday.
Sabres star Jack Eichel was suspended for the first time in his career after colliding with Avalanche forward Carl Söderberg in Saturday night's 3-0 loss to Colorado.
Söderberg was in a fairly defenseless position, reaching for the puck in the neutral zone before Eichel finished a check to the head that the NHL's Department of Player Safety believes could have been avoided.
Eichel received an illegal check to the head penalty on the play, which did not seem to injure Söderberg at all. The Avalanche star stayed down on the ice for a few moments before he got up and finished the rest of the game.
The Sabres, who were likely anticipating a suspension for their captain, recalled Alexander Nylander from Rochester on Sunday. Eichel will miss Tuesday's game against the Dallas Stars , as well as Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins .
The NHL's Department of Player Safety was pretty busy on Sunday as they also had a hearing with Flyers star Jakub Voracek .
Philadelphia's third-leading scorer was also given a two-game suspension for a hit on Johnny Boychuk in the Flyers' 5-2 win over New York on Saturday night. Voracek was assessed a major penalty for interference on the play.
The league found that Voracek had dangerously thrusted his upper-back at Boychuk's head, making contact with an opponent when the puck wasn't anywhere near the play.
Voracek will miss Monday's game against the Ottawa Senators , as well as Thursday's game against the Washington Capitals .
