- Louis Domingue posts hilarious tweet after Lightning sign potential replacement
With free agency opening up on July 1, change is sweeping through the NHL.
As players get scooped up and move around, depth charts around the league have become an enormous question mark and the futures of many are uncertain.
Nobody illustrated the confusion better than Tampa Bay goaltender Louis Domingue . Currently the backup behind Andrei Vasilevskiy in Tampa Bay, he must have been following the free agency frenzy on Twitter and saw that his employer may be bringing in his potential replacement.
According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports , the Lightning will sign veteran netminder Curtis McElhinney today and, as a result, it “looks like Louis Domingue is on the block.”
The Lightning made McElhinney’s signing official on Monday afternoon, inking him to a two-year deal with a $1.3 million AAV.
Domingue had something to say about all that, though.
Watch out, McElhinney.
Things in Florida might not be as peachy as they appear.
If anything, competition in the crease will be a good thing. Domingue was solid last season after Vasilevskiy broke his foot early in the 2018-19 season. He finished the campaign with a record of 21-5-0 with a 2.88 GAA and .908 SV%.
He’s entering the final season of a two-year, $2.3 million contract.
McElhinney, meanwhile, just came off the best season of his career. The 36-year-old won a career-high 20 games while posting a 2.58 GAA and .912 SV%.
