- 'Not all schedules and conferences are created equal': Greg Byrne makes Alabama football CFP pitch
With no more games to play until the final College Football Playoff bracket is decided, Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne is making his pitch for Alabama football to be a part of the final 12 teams.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Monday night, Byrne made his case for the Crimson Tide , citing Alabama's strength of schedule despite losses to Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Oklahoma .
"Recognize there's a lot of chatter out there about 2 vs. 3 loss teams," Byrne wrote. "However, that is just one factor. When you look at the (CFP) Principles for its Selection Committee, the first bullet point on the list of considerations is strength of schedule. Not all schedules and conferences are created equal.
"We've worked diligently to add more challenging nonconference home-and-homes, which is good for college football, not to mention the week-in and week-out of the SEC and it being the toughest in the country."
Byrne posted his thoughts with a graphic that shows Alabama with the second-best opponent win percentage and the Crimson Tide as fourth-best in both ESPN's Football Power Index and its efficiency ratings.
Byrne also cites Alabama's three wins against teams currently ranked in the CFP Top 25, and its four wins against teams ranked or that received votes in the Associated Press Top 25 at the time of the game.
Six of Alabama's eight wins, Byrne cited, were against bowl-eligible teams.
According to the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, Alabama is the No. 11 team in the country, and would be the No. 11 seed in the CFP facing No. 6 Notre Dame in the first round for a quarterfinal date against No. 3 SMU.
The CFP will release a ranking Tuesday before releasing its final rankings at 11 a.m. CT Sunday.
