Pete Nance is headed to Chapel Hill to play his final college basketball season with the Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina.
Nance, a 6-foot-10 Revere High School and Northwestern University graduate, is joining a UNC men's basketball team that finished as national runner-up to Kansas in March.
"Northwestern, thank you for everything," Nance wrote in a tweet Saturday afternoon. "Super excited about the next steps."
UNC is set to return four starters from last season in Caleb Love, R.J. Davis, Leaky Black and Armando Bacot.
Nance averaged 14.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 30 games (all starts) last season en route to earning honorable mention honors on the All-Big Ten team.
Nance shot 45 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 77 percent from the free-throw line last season in 27.2 minutes per game. He led Northwestern (15-16, 7-13) in points (437), rebounds (194) and blocks (34) and was second in assists (81).
Nance finished his Northwestern career with 1,017 career points in 106 games under coach Chris Collins. He became the 38th player in program history to reach the 1,000 points milestone.
"My Northwestern family, thank you all so much for the last four years, and for forming me into the man I am today," Nance said in his tweet. "We've been through some high highs, and some low lows, but all for an experience that I wouldn't trade for the world. To my coaches, support staff, and teammates, thank you all for supporting and encouraging me throughout my career, and making memories that will last a lifetime. I'm super proud to say that I have graduated from such an amazing university like Northwestern."
Nance earned All-Ohio honors in Division II while at Revere, and finished his four-year career with 1,347 points, 983 rebounds and 340 blocks under coach Dean Rahas. Nance graduated from Revere in 2018 after leading the Minutemen to a Division II district championship, the first in the history of the boys basketball program.
Nance's father, Larry Sr., was a standout at Clemson, an NBA slam dunk champion with the Phoenix Suns and an NBA All-Star with the Cavaliers. His brother, Larry Jr., was a star at Revere and at Wyoming and is playing for the New Orleans Pelicans after stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and Cavaliers.
