CLEMSON — Clemson football added its first defensive back in the 2025 class Wednesday with the signing of three-star recruit Jakarrion Kenan on national signing day.
The 6-foot, 177-pounder from Marlboro County High School in Bennettsville, South Carolina , is rated as the No. 12 player in the state by the 247Sports Composite rankings. He decommitted from Rutgers in October and announced his commitment to the Tigers on Instagram live.

Why Jakarrion Kenan picked Clemson football on signing day
Kenan chose Clemson over Vanderbilt, Virginia , Virginia Tech and NC State on national signing day. His signing comes after multiple defensive backs decommitted from the Tigers this cycle, including Jordan Young , Tae Harris and Graceson Littleton — all four-stars. Their decommitments were a part of seven that occurred in this cycle for Clemson.
Kenan is the fifth defensive player to sign with Clemson and third South Carolina native, joining four-star defensive lineman Amare Adams and four-star running back Marquise Henderson.

Kenan would slot at the end of the depth chart when he enrolls. He would be listed as a safety.

Will Jakarrion Kenan play right away with Clemson football?
Kenan will not likely play right away with the Tigers. Despite safety R.J. Mickens ' eligibility expiring and defensive back Tyler Venables potentially staying another season, players like Khalil Barnes, Kylon Griffin, Ricardo Jones and Rob Billings would be ahead of Kenan on the depth chart.

According to MaxPreps, Kenan has recorded 29 tackles, including two for loss and one sack, through seven games this season. He has recorded one interception, caused three fumbles and deflected two passes.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney 's 2025 class, which ranked No. 29 nationally entering football signing day, is up to 15 recruits, with six four-star recruits and nine three-stars.
When is early signing day? When is late signing day?
Early signing day is Wednesday, Dec 4. It closes Friday, Dec 6. Junior college transfers can sign through Jan. 15.
The late signing period for high school players is Feb. 5 until April 1.
