Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney owes Syracuse coach Fran Brown a dinner in the offseason.
Despite falling in a nonconference game to end their regular season, the Tigers (9-3, 7-1 ACC) clinched a spot in the ACC championship game after No. 7 Miami was upset by Syracuse on Saturday.
Brown even shouted out Swinney after his best win as a head coach.

"Hey, Dabo Swinney, I got you in, congrats," Brown said as he ended his postgame interview with ESPN.
Clemson will now face SMU , who owns sole possession of first place in the ACC standings and will serve as the home team in the conference championship game. The Tigers got in over Miami due to ACC record, as Clemson finished 9-3 overall on the year but 7-1 in conference play. Miami's two losses this season were both in conference games, to Georgia Tech and Syracuse.
Syracuse's win also helps Clemson's College Football Playoff hopes, as a conference championship win over SMU (11-1, 8-0) would almost certainly put the Tigers in the 12-team bracket as one of the five highest-ranked conference champions. It's a huge break for Clemson, as it likely wouldn't have gotten in the field as an at-large team after its 17-14 loss to South Carolina on Saturday.
Clemson now looks forward to beating SMU in the ACC championship game on Dec. 7 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
