The Texas Tech football team got a signing-day surprise on Wednesday when Cibolo Steele two-way player Sean Robinson chose the Red Raiders after being committed to Arizona for more than five months.
Tech listed Robinson at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds and projects him to play tight end, while Arizona was recruiting him as an outside linebacker. He committed to the Wildcats in mid-June and visited Tech last weekend for the Red Raiders' regular-season finale against West Virginia. Robinson, rated as a three-star prospect, decommitted from Arizona on the eve of signing day.
Wednesday was the first day high-school recruits can sign with college teams. Tech went into it with commitments from 16 players. The Red Raiders signed all 16, plus Robinson.
Robinson didn't produce big stats this season, but he attracted scholarship offers from Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Houston, Texas State, Tulane and UT-San Antonio, among others. He had 20 carries for 400 yards and five touchdowns, three catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns and 26 tackles, including four tackles for loss.
Both 247Sports and ESPN rank him among the state's top 100 recruits.
Robinson goes by the nickname "Rambo." He's a California native with parents who served in the military.
Tech went into the week in the picture with a few other recruits who were uncommitted. Sachse running back Brendan Haygood pledged to Missouri late Tuesday, and Louisville (Ky.) Fern Creek defensive end Travis Moten signed with Michigan.
