Wednesday is the start of the early signing period for the 2025 class of college football recruits . Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech football team have been hard at work looking to add another round of young players to continue building the Red Raiders for the present and the future.
McGuire and his staff have secured a number of verbal commitments for this year's recruiting class ahead of signing day. Keep in mind, though, that nothing is set in stone until the player officially signs their National Letter of Intent.
Earlier this week, McGuire said this year's class will be smaller due to previous class sizes. That means the Red Raiders focused on a few positions in particular. Here's a look at the areas of need the 2025 recruits will look to fill:

Offensive line
There's no such thing as too many offensive linemen. It's a difficult position to maintain and the most physically demanding on the football field.
Texas Tech will be losing the majority of this year's starting line, which provides plenty of opportunity for previous recruits to step into those roles. That means depth will be a need.
Five offensive linemen have pledged their allegiance to Texas Tech thus far, headlined by Elias Gillen out of Stevens High School in Rapid City, South Dakota. Gillen is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports and considered the No. 2 prospect out of the Rushmore state.
Defensive back
Much like the offensive line, you can never have too many defensive backs. Youngsters have gotten plenty of run in the secondary in McGuire's tenure, and that's likely to continue.
Three defensive backs have committed to Tech ahead of Wednesday's signing day. Deante Lindsay out of Ada, Oklahoma, is the name to know here. Also a three-star prospect, Lindsay committed to Tech in June and held offers from Boston College, Harvard, Tulsa and UNLV before pledging to the Red Raiders.
Receiver
There are a lot of names to know here as six players listed as potential receivers have committed to Tech. These include local products like Michael Dever out of Lubbock-Cooper and Leyton Stone out of Frenship , both rated three-star prospects by 247Sports.
The top ranking, though, belongs to Tristian Gentry out of Stephenville . The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Gentry is Tech's highest-rated commit in the class. Rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports, Gentry is ranked the 37th overall recruit in the state of Texas. He was the first player from the 2025 class to commit to Tech, announcing his commitment in September 2023.
