North Carolina faces another must-win game on Saturday afternoon, heading to New York to face off against Syracuse. This road stretch for UNC hasn't been pleasant, as this will be the fourth road game in five games for the Tar Heels and they are 0-3 in this stretch.
With a 14-11 record overall, the Tar Heels' NCAA Tournament chances are in deep trouble. They have seven games left and pretty much need to win all of them as they have just one Quad 1 opportunity left, and that comes against Duke at home. So going 6-1 at worst should keep them alive, and would require them to win a few games in the ACC Tournament as well. But first things first, UNC has to take care of Syracuse on the road Saturday.
Going into that game, the Tar Heels have moved down in the latest ESPN Bracketology by Joe Lunardi which was released Thursday and updated for Saturday's games . Lunardi moved UNC from the "first four out" line to the "next four out" which means they have some work to do.
The Tar Heels are joined by Kansas State, Xavier, and Boise State. They are behind VCU, SMU, Wake Forest and Indiana on the 'first four out' line. The good news is that Indiana lost to UCLA on Friday night and Wake Forest plays SMU on Saturday, which is a battle of the bubble teams.
The 'last four in' section features BYU, Arkansas , Georgia, and San Diego State. All of those teams are in action on Saturday, so if you're looking for teams to root against, there you go.
The bottom line for UNC is that they need to win and not worry about other teams. Let's hope they can make a serious run as the season winds down.
