Just when you think the Texas Tech football team is slowing down in the transfer portal, they add another key piece for the 2025 season.
Pete Nakos of On3 reported Thursday afternoon that the Red Raiders have received a commitment from USC running back Quinten Joyner. On3 ranks Joyner as the No. 6 running back available in the transfer portal and 58th-best overall. He had previously visited Ohio State before opting to join Texas Tech.
Sharing a hometown with Texas Tech's all-time leading rusher Tahj Brooks, the Manor native spent two years playing under Lincoln Riley with the Trojans . He was ranked a four-star recruit in the 2023 class and pitched USC over the likes of Oklahoma State and Nebraska out of high school. 247Sports and Rivals each had Joyner at Top 100 overall prospect.
Joyner (5-foot-11, 216 pounds) saw action in five games in his redshirt season of 2023. He was second on the team with 480 yards on 63 carries, finding the end zone three times. He also caught 12 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown.
He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Joyner is the 16th player to pledge to the Red Raiders through the transfer portal. Head coach Joey McGuire said he wanted to add another veteran body to the backfield with the impending departure of Brooks and Cam'Ron Valdez recovering from a season-ending knee injury suffered earlier this year.
