Joe and Scott discuss the Steelers' season with Mike McCarthy coaching and Aaron Rodgers' final plays being closely watched. It's set to be enthralling.

Video Transcript

But I wanna get your thoughts, here, Scott, because I am also fascinated, one of the new head coaches on the sideline for a team this year, and we just got to watch the former coach actually in the booth last night there with Mike Tomlin.

Yep.

Mike McCarthy now on the sidelines there of, of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I'm fa- call me crazy, Aaron Rodgers with knowing this is it, knowing he can take shots at everyone on the way out the door, I think it's going to be must-watch television here this year.

I just can't figure out if what we're gonna get from McCarthy that we didn't get from Tomlin.

I mean, I Nobody did more with less than Tomlin did.

I mean, I- is he gonna win all of those one-score games, McCarthy, like Tomlin did?

Like, I, I don't know what we're gonna get, but I know this, it's gonna be entertaining as all hell to watch.

Yeah.

I mean, you know why?

Because you're right.

W- with Rodgers knowing this is probably it, he, you know, he- Oh he showed up a lot of players last year wh- when things weren't- Yes going well, and for the most part they, you know, they, they did go well.

He was still yelling and screaming on the You remember the one play he wouldn't come off the field when they wanted to kick- the field goal?

Yes.

I forget which game that was.

Yes.

Then the next drive- Yep they, they, they decided to go for it and he wouldn't come off the field.

I mean, you know, the, the dude's gotta be 43.

God bless him of, still playing and everything.

He's gotta be 43, Joe, i- you know, i- in December.

I, I think this has got awfulness, whatever, however you wanna say it, written all over it.

I, I really do.

You're right.

I agree.

You know, I, I'm a Tomlin guy.

I know they didn't win in the postseason, but I, I think that was just a classic case of he took a mediocre team to playoff level.

He didn't take a playoff team and keep them just a playoff team.

Like he- Correct he got the most out of that team.

They, they weren't favorites at any of those games that they were losing in the postseason over the last 10 years anyway.

So I And I think that your Steelers fans are gonna find that out.

You know, they, they kind of pushed him out a little bit.

I, I think they're gonna, you know, question that after this season.

I, I think this has got disaster written all over it.

Really do.

Yeah.

Well, it'll be fun to watch it all, crumble, or I mean, who knows?

We'll see if, McCarthy can get the best, out of Aaron Rodgers and that offense- He couldn't with Aikman 'cause they're gonna need to do, I- Right.

He couldn't win with a, a young Troy Aikman down in Dallas with all the weapons.

Yep.

How's he gonna win with, with an old Aaron Rodgers, realistically?

I don't see it.

And a very old defense too.

That's the other problem with, Listen, for Tomlin to leave to go and sit with that crew last night on television and the lo- i- he, you know he was done.

Like, he had enough and he's like, "I'm not coming back to this disaster.

It We can't get a quarterback.

I got We're paying more money for an aging defense than any other team.

Like, all of this is gonna end in flames."

I think he knew exactly what he was doing going, "Yeah, I'm good.

My time is up here.

I'll see you in, like, a year or two.

I'll come back and I'll pick the team that I wanna be with, but yeah, right now I am, I am good to go with that."

also, by the way, they start They're putting a microphone in, Stefon Diggs' face a lot here.

He's got a new team with the Commanders.

I'm kind of shocked that him and Deebo opened up camp without being on teams, and we know the injury to the 49ers, Deebo goes back home.

That's an easy fit.

Diggs with the Commanders I think is very interesting.

You know, Terry McLaurin, is gonna be the number one.

Diggs is now your number two.

I don't know.

I mean, Daniels took a big step back last year.

You wanna talk about hot seat, is Dan Quinn on the hot seat here, Scotty?

Yeah, I, I, I think so.

You know, th- this is a strange one, team, right?

Are you gonna get this Washington team from two years ago that surprised everybody or are you gonna get the Washington team, you know, albeit with Daniels being hurt, but that- Yeah let everybody down, right?

You wonder about Diggs too.

I, You know, he had 85 receptions for 1,000 yards.

Not that many- Yeah touchdowns, you know, but he was pretty productive.

And I know he had a balloon payment.

You know, they, they set up the contract where the, there's no way he was gonna be on a team.

But that didn't stop the Patriots from ripping that up, Diggs from ripping that up and saying, "All right.

We'll, we'll just give you- Yep a new deal.

Then, y- but we want you.

You were productive last year."

So I'm a little surprised, you know, and, especially with New England's, passing game, that they let him go
