- Where does Alabama football stand with the NCAA transfer portal? What's next for Tide in 2025
Alabama football is still in the roster-building stages ahead of the 2025 season.
A few pieces are locked in with LT Overton , Justin Jefferson , Domani Jackson and Deontae Lawson each returning for the 2025 season. A few more have been added through the NCAA transfer portal, pieces like Texas A&M guard Kam Dewberry and Colorado linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green , who are expected to be starters upon arrival.
But there are holes to be filled and questions to be answered ahead of the Crimson Tide 's spring practices.
Here's a look at where Alabama stands after the winter NCAA transfer portal window closed, and what to expect from the Crimson Tide roster moving forward.
OT Elijah Pritchett
LB Sterling Dixon
TE Ty Lockwood
DB King Mack
LB Jeremiah Alexander
LB Jayshawn Ross
WR Amari Jefferson
WR Jaren Hamilton
WR Emmanuel Henderson ( Kansas )
WR Kendrick Law ( Kentucky )
RB Justice Haynes ( Michigan )
DL Damon Payne Jr. (Michigan)
Husky DeVonta Smith (Notre Dame)
QB Dylan Lonergan ( Boston College )
OL Naquil Betrand (Syracuse)
DL Hunter Osborne ( Virginia )
OL Miles McVay ( North Carolina )
WR Caleb Odom ( Ole Miss )
WR Kobe Prentice (Baylor)
CB Jahlil Hurley (Kansas)
LB Keanu Koht (Vanderbilt)
DL Jehiem Oatis (Colorado)
Alabama lost much of its depth at two major positions after the winter transfer portal window.
Jeremiah Alexander, Justin Okoronkwo, Sterling Dixon and Jayshawn Ross each left the Crimson Tide via the portal, leaving the Crimson Tide without much space between players like Deontae Lawson , Justin Jefferson and Qua Russaw , and the four-linebacker 2025 class of Justin Hill, Darrell Johnson, Luke Metz and Abduall Sanders Jr.
The same can be said at wide receiver after the loss of players such as Emmanuel Henderson, Kobe Prentice, Kendrick Law and Caleb Odom, with a two-receiver recruiting class coming in through Lotzeir Brooks and Derek Meadows, and only one receiver added through the portal in Isaiah Horton .
Two starters also entered the portal: right tackle Elijah Pritchett, who is expected to be replaced by Wilkin Formby, and Husky DeVonta Smith, who could be replaced by DaShawn Jones, Red Morgan or even Zavier Mincey.
Louisiana RB Dre'Lyn Washington
Ball State OT Arkel Anugwom
Colorado LB Nikhai Hill-Green
Miami WR Isaiah Horton
Texas A&M OG Kam Dewberry
Utah CB Cameron Calhoun
Florida DL Kelby Collins
Cal LS David Bird
Colorado School of Mines P Blake Doud
Alabama has added its share of players that could compete for starting reps come spring.
On offense,Dewberry is viewed as a plug-and-play starter in place of NFL draft-bound Tyler Booker , while Horton is expected to be the Crimson Tide's No. 3 wide receiver behind Germie Bernard and Ryan Williams . Dre'Lyn Washington is expected to be a depth piece to replace Justice Haynes, who will battle for reps along with Jam Miller and Richard Young.
On defense, Florida defensive end Kelby Collins looks like an immediate addition to the Bandit rotation along with returning starter LT Overton , while Hill-Green will try and fill the void left by Jihaad Campbell .
Alabama's biggest transfer portal needs are on offense.
While scholarship experience at wide receiver is dwindling, the glaring need for the Crimson Tide is at tackle even with the addition of Ball State offensive lineman Arkel Anugwom.
Alabama could also look for transfer help for the Husky position after losing DeVonta Smith to Notre Dame. The Crimson Tide's answers could come in the form of DaShawn Jones or Red Morgan for the hybrid safety/cornerback position.
