CLEVELAND — Guardians starting pitcher Tanner Bibee lasted 5⅔ innings Saturday against the New York Yankees in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series despite performing on short rest.
However, the outing proved to be bittersweet for Bibee because his final pitch was hit 446 feet to left-center field by Giancarlo Stanton for the tying home run in the sixth inning. With two outs and Gleyber Torres on third base, Bibee hung an 82.6 mph slider, and Stanton blasted it to the bleachers with an exit velocity of 117.5 mph to tie the score 2-2.

Stanton's home run was his fifth of the 2024 playoffs and 16th in his career in the postseason. The 16 playoff homers moves him past Babe Ruth and teammate Aaron Judge for fourth most in Yankees history. Stanton trails only Bernie Williams (22), Derek Jeter (20) and Mickey Mantle (18).
