Woman Takes Hyundai Tucson for Repairs, Finds Stranger Driving It as Miles and Tolls Pile Up

A Massachusetts woman dropped her Hyundai Tucson off at a repair shop, only to spot a complete stranger driving it around Boston days later – and that was just the beginning of her problems.
Shayna Moralestook her vehicle to River Street Auto Center in Hyde Park for transmission repairs. She told CBS Boston that her extended warranty company, ProGuard, had recommended the shop.
Days later, while walking to the train, Morales spotted her Hyundai stopped at a red light.
"I was flabbergasted," Morales told the outlet. "I go up to her and I'm like, 'Why are you driving my vehicle?'"

The woman reportedly told Morales that she was coming from Weymouth, but didn't explain why she had the SUV. When the light turned green, she drove away.
Morales said a mechanic later told her the woman was his stepdaughter.
However, the mystery driver wasn't her only concern. Dashcam footage showed the Hyundai traveling around Boston and into Weymouth, including trips through the Ted Williams Tunnel that resulted in toll charges. By the time Morales got her vehicle back, the odometer showed hundreds of additional miles.
Plus, despite all of the extra driving, Morales said the original transmission problem hadn't been properly fixed.
"They didn't fix the car. It actually came back with more issues," she told CBS Boston.
Morales took the SUV to a Hyundai dealership in Braintree, where mechanics determined the replacement transmission could fail at any time. She also documented where she said the vehicle had additional damage.

When Morales tried getting help, she said the repair shop and warranty company pointed fingers at each other.
ProGuard disputed Morales' account and told CBS Boston it had provided a list of repair shops rather than directing her to River Street Auto Center. The company also said it was already working to resolve her claim when contacted by reporters.
After CBS Boston's investigative team got involved, Morales received approval to have the repairs completed at the Hyundai dealership.
A man, who identified himself as the repair shop's manager, told the outlet he would look into the situation.
