Jeep Recalls 328,381 Grand Cherokees for a Problem Two Recalls Didn’t Fix

Jeep Grand Cherokee owners just can't catch a break with recalls, especially those with the now-discontinued plug-in hybrid 4xe models . Sure, recalls are intended to improve vehicle safety, but frequent campaigns can be troublesome for owners making repeated trips to dealerships.

The latest in this saga involves a rear coil spring installation issue under NHTSA recall number 26V562 , following two previous recalls – 23V413 and 26V051 – addressing the same problem. This new campaign covers 328,381 Grand Cherokee units, including the standard model, the long-wheelbase L, and the 4xe .

One Spring Too Loose

According to the recall report, the rear coil springs may have been installed improperly during manufacturing or previous repairs, potentially allowing them to detach while driving. A detached spring would create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash or injury without prior warning. Although not mentioned in the safety campaign, a vehicle running without a rear coil spring could lose support at that corner, making its handling and braking less predictable.

The affected vehicles include 97,477 2022–2023 Grand Cherokees, 215,433 2021–2023 Grand Cherokee Ls, and 15,471 2022–2023 Grand Cherokee PHEVs. Stellantis estimates that 0.1% of the recall population has the defect. Models equipped with air suspension are excluded.

The first recall was issued on June 1, 2023, followed by an updated safety campaign on January 22, 2026. Because the issue continued to persist after those repairs, a third recall has now been issued to address it. As of August 6, 2026, Stellantis was aware of 29 customer assistance records and 406 warranty claims potentially related to the rear coil spring assembly problem across all markets. However, it was unaware of any potentially related accidents or injuries.

Third Time's A Charm?

As part of the remedy, dealers will replace both rear coil spring lower isolators on affected Grand Cherokees. Stellantis plans to send interim owner notifications between September 29 and October 7, 2026. The report also references the company's general reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.

In a separate recall, the Grand Cherokee is also included alongside other Stellantis models – including the Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Charger, and Ram 1500 – over a radio software issue that may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. That safety campaign affects more than 840,000 vehicles in the U.S.
