Now accepting students in Petaluma! After graduating from UCSC with a degree in vocal performance, Julia moved to Portland and then Oakland to teach and to play music in various music groups and ensembles. While in Portland Julia also studied piano with Jenny Conlee of 'The Decemberists'. In 2015 Julia had the opportunity to pursue a Master's of Music Education Degree from the University of Limerick in Ireland, and is returning to Sonoma County to continue teaching and performing in August 2016. For voice lessons Julia teaches many styles including classical, pop, rock, jazz, musical theater and folk. She teaches how to obtain the sound and style a student is seeking while implementing proper technique. Julia can also work with her students on ear-training and songwriting. For piano lessons she can use various methods depending on the student's goals. She generally uses the Faber method accompanied by pieces that students are interested in, whether they classical, pop, blues, jazz, theme songs, etc. She likes to teach her students how to read music and use chord charts, but also emphasizes the importance of listening. Julia can also combine voice and piano into one lesson if a student is interested. She can also teach basic UKULELE if a student is interested! Julia is friendly and reliable, and works her hardest to make lessons fun, inspiring and educational.
