New Horizons Music Studio accepts students of all ages and abilities for a thorough music education with piano as the instrument focus. Music Theory, keyboard skills and technique, practice and performance skills and interpretation of music in all styles are the immediate goals. Life-long pursuit of active music enjoyment is the long-term goal. Director Rory Thompson has degrees in piano performance, 35 years of teaching experience, and is a retired Associate Professor of Piano. Rory is nationally certified by Music Teachers National Association, and is Master-Teacher certified by the Minnesota Music Teachers Association. New Horizons students participate in National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festivals, MMTA Contest, Piano Exams the Ensemble Festival and studio activities such as quarterly Performance Classes and an annual Duet Recital.
Music instructor, specializing in guitar, banjo, harmonica, and bass guitar but also available to teach ukulele and other non-bowed string instruments. I don’t teach jazz but can teach at least up to intermediate level on most styles of guitar. I prefer to focus on concepts, theory, and techniques rather than memorization or just learning songs though I always do my best to tailor lessons to the wants and goals of the student. I teach mostly adult students but willing to teach kids too.

I teach music lessons (guitar mainly though also voice, theory, composition, songwriting, and more) out of my home studio and via online video chat. I always do a FREE intro session. I have a classical guitar degree and also teach a range of other styles including blues, rock, flamenco, jazz, country, funk, and more. I especially emphasize creativity, conscious music making, and understanding of the science and psychology of music.
