Centaur Guitar

We offer one of the largest selections of off the wall and boutique guitar effects in Portland. We also carry a huge variety of new, used, and vintage electric and acoustic guitars. Centaur is also home to one of the largest collections of 60's Japanese oddball bizarre guitars that your likely to find under one roof. We love these things and still can't figure out why! We're also the only guitar store in Portland licensed as a pawn shop and the only pawn shop in town dealing only in musical instruments. We know how to take care of your instruments and we treat them with the respect they deserve. All pawned instruments are kept in a separate and secure area of the store and are never displayed on the sales floor unless a loan is forfeited. - Please see our website for more details.

Ryan McPhaill Drum Lessons

I believe the absolute best way to see if the drums are right for you is to sit behind the kit completely risk-free—which is why your first introductory lesson with me is 100% complementary. My name is Ryan McPhaill, and I have been teaching drum and percussion lessons across the Portland metro area since 1995.To make learning as convenient as possible, I offer flexible scheduling with three distinct options: in-person studio lessons at Rhythm Traders on NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd or Portland Music Company on Broadway, premium in-home private lessons where I travel directly to you, or fully interactive remote lessons. Over the past three decades, I have taught hundreds of students of all ages and skill levels. I don’t rely on rigid, one-size-fits-all books. Instead, I build a custom curriculum around your goals, whether you want to master rock grooves, swing in a jazz ensemble, lock down country rhythms, or build speed for metal. Together, we will master fundamental technique, reading, and rhythmic independence while playing the music you love.

Ryan Walsh

I am a Portland-area classical guitarist, specialized in concerts, weddings, private events, lessons and composing. I have extensive experience in all of these fields, and truly love what I do. If you think my music might be right for you, or you are interested in studying with me, please get in touch. I look forward to working together! My repertoire is exceptionally wide and varied, and has been cultivated over the last several years on the sole criteria of beauty. It includes, but is not limited to, a large variety of both Spanish and South American composers, such as Albéniz, Tárrega, Granados, Sor, Villa-Lobos, Barrios, and Lauro. I also perform some more modern and contemporary composers such as Roland Dyens and Leo Brouwer. Other notable composers I interpret include, J.S. Bach, Scarlatti, Eric Satie, Johann Mertz, Joaquin Malats, Stanley Meyers (The timeless Deer Hunter theme song, Cavatina) Mozart, Aguado, and last but not least, several of my own pieces.
