The Midland County Historical Museum was founded in 1932 and aims to promote the study of Midland County. Artifacts and histories go all the way back to the days of Native Americans and pioneers through the Civil War and the World Wars. The collection is located in the Midland County Library and is free to the public. Guided tours are available upon request.
In operation for more than a decade, the Petroleum Museum documents the discovery of petroleum, other energy sources, as well as the journey of petroleum over the years. Visitors to the museum can understand and learn more about everything from Permian reefs and the petroleum industry, to alternate energy sources like solar and hydro power. Replicas of natural features, various dioramas and a number of hands-on exhibits dispense interesting information. Visitors can also participate in a fun, game-based permanent exhibit called Risk and Reward, which requires them to overcome obstacles as they 'drill for oil'.
