The former home and studio of German sculptress Elisabet Ney is open to the public for exploration. This home was one of the first buildings erected in the Hyde Park neighborhood, which was developed as a suburb in 1892 by Monroe Martin Shippe. Visitors flock to this museum to view nearly 50 busts and statues of Texas heroes, as well as Europeans she sculpted as a young artist. Her tools and several personal items are also on display. Admission is free.
Landmarks
Lydia Street Gallery is a contemporary fine arts gallery located in the heart of the East End IBIZ district in central east Austin. Gallerist, Deanna Miesch is an artist and Art Therapist and brings with her a wealth of knowledge and appreciation for the arts. A graduate of UT Austin (BFA ‘1991, Studio Art) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (MAAT ‘96), and owner of Art Therapy Austin, she runs her private practice in her studio in the same location. Just as in her art therapy practice, she appreciates every artist’s personal perspective and meaning in their work. The gallery specializes in mid and late-career artists from Austin and beyond. Lydia Street hopes to provide artists the attention they deserve and a welcoming place for the community to engage in the beautiful, challenging, mystifying world of art. The gallery is a proud member of Art Austin, a collective of art galleries and museums supporting the arts in Austin.

Hi Austin Art Lovers! I’m a private art teacher who has been teaching drawing and painting to kids, teens and adults in Austin for the past 10 years. If you've ever been interested in art, but are not sure where to start, or if you've had experience and are looking to learn even more, then these art classes are for you! Students of all levels are welcome to come and learn about art in a relaxed and supportive environment for private lessons. Beginners will start with line drawing then move into shading, learning about tonal values to create form and depth in drawings. From there students can move into learning about painting if they so choose.
