Richard Abels founded Abels Communication Company in October, 2003 after a 30 year career in marketing and communications management for corporations and advertising agencies. Since establishing the firm, Abels has served as a virtual, as-needed Marketing VP to organizations which require strategic planning and implementation for a variety of marketing or communications activities but do not have the full-time need or ability to employ such a person on their staff. Prior to forming ACC, Abels was National Director of Communications for AT&T Wireless/Cellular One ( McCaw ), where his responsibilities included the development and implementation of all corporate communications for the western half of the US. In addition, he developed strategic marketing plans, executed national product launches and provided strategic counsel to C-level executives, while successfully managing executive staff and departmental budgets. Throughout his career, Abels directed and implemented multi-faceted marketing and communications for a variety of national and regional organizations, including Pentax Cameras, Monsanto AstroTurf, Fender Guitars, Hilton Hotels, Highlands Ranch and others, in addition to the firm's current client roster. Abels earned a B.S. in Marketing from Penn State University and has completed extensive course work in communications, media relations and public speaking. He has lived in Colorado since 1979 and has served on a variety of community/business boards and concerns.
