There is so much that makes CICADA unique. I was trained by one of the most highly regarded golf course superintendents in Missouri, Ryan Sears. He accelerated my knowledge, skills, and most importantly, my eye for detail. I don’t take shortcuts or make things worse in the long run, I.e., I care about the long term health and beauty of the plants and the soil beneath them. As much as possible my methods are organic and low-impact. For example, I often pull weeds out by the tap root instead of spraying. When I do spray, I use vinegar-salt solution instead of harmful pesticides. When it makes sense to, I push mow instead of using the zero turn to avoid tearing grass or rutting up the yard. When the grass is excessively tall, I double cut or bag the clippings to avoid leaving unsightly long clippings which become thatch. I often hand rake beds instead of blowing mulch all over the lawn. When I do cleanups, I’m consciously respecting the tiny perennial buds popping up beneath the debris. For soil and plant health, I typically use compost instead of chemically-derived synthetic fertilizers. I use electric equipment to reduce noise and air pollution. I offer a serious fixed-income discount for older folks who want the highest quality care but can’t afford it.
