Michel André Gauthier’s best-known works pertain to the genres of portraits and fine art photography. His portrait works, using natural or continuous light, stress his quest for authenticity over fashionable appearance and style. “Natural light is my foundation to cast the emotion and personality of a visage; yes, simple and honest.” His fine art photography body of works came together to create the Memory of the Present project, a unique photographic study of our subliminal vision. It is a space with no post-editing, no stacking where the truth overcomes. It is indeed evident that Michel's strong desire to create photography with spatial nuances of colors and impeccable detailing echoes his choice of cameras. Working with a medium format, Hasselblad allows him to reveal the clarity and richness of his work on small or large prints. His latest book La Habana, Grandeur and Mystery, with more than eighty unique photos, includes a study of the chromatic palette of the legendary city.
