Alta Vista Elementary School enrolls students in grades kindergarten through five and is located in Sarasota, Fla. Its drug abuse resistance education program works in collaboration between police department, school, parents and community leaders. The program teaches kids against the usage of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drugs. Its accelerated reader independent reading program on the computer allows students to test their knowledge of a book and keeps records of their progress. Its science lab has a saltwater aquarium, an insect habitat and audiovisual equipment. The students use various methods, including wireless iBook laptops, conduct research and make discoveries. Its news show broadcasts on AV Channel 4 that includes weather, history, current events, as well as special programs happening at the school.
