Ray Childers Elementary School serves students in prekindergarten through grade five. Its special areas of instruction include physical education, music and computer applications. Hickory Day School, serving students from transitional kindergarten (5-year-olds) to 8th grade, is one of only 15 elementary schools in North Carolina to be authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization as a Primary Years Programme. We offer students in transitional kindergarten through eighth grade a comprehensive college-preparatory, inquiry-based curriculum in a nurturing environment. Oakwood Elementary School has an annual enrollment of more than 350 students in prekindergarten through grade five. It operates under Hickory Public Schools, which is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and operates several elementary, middle and high schools.
