The Lowell School is a nonprofit day school that provides learning opportunities for students between the ages of 5 and 21. Founded in 1968, the school enrolls students with learning disabilities and health and speech impairments. Its academic curriculum includes reading, math and science. The school offers a range of college preparatory and vocational consulting services. It provides classes in music, art, computer technology and job development. Founded in 1973, The Child School offers academic and therapeutic services to disabled students in grades kindergarten through 12. Its staff includes nurse, psychologists, hearing education, visiting service providers, guidance counselors, and occupational, speech and language therapists. The school offers a more than 4,000 square-foot gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts, rock-climbing walls and viewing balcony. The Child School has a variety of amenities, including music room, science lab, and various computer labs with Internet access, graphic arts and music technology programs. It also has a library, a private soundproof conference room and a mock studio apartment. It provides education to students suffering from several disorders, such as exhibit perceptual handicaps, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, developmental aphasia, and listening, speaking, reading and spelling disorder.
