Founded in 1950, Whitney Young School offers education to students in grades 6 through 12. Its academic curricula include English, language arts, math, science, art and social studies. The school s staff includes full-time teachers, counselors and psychologists. It operates a parent-teacher association that conducts monthly meetings and supports and sponsors a variety of school events and activities. Additionally, the school organizes various recreational and extracurricular activities. Urban Community School is an independent, non-graded, elementary school serving 430 students from preschool ( age three ) through eighth level.The mission is to provide an individualized, Catholic/Christian, quality education to the children of Cleveland's Near West Side neighborhoods, primarily to those who, otherwise, might not have access to such an education.UCS offers an alternative to traditional education to better meet the needs of an unstable, volatile and sometimes violent community.
