Established in 1916, the College of Osteopathic Medicine is affiliated with the Kansas University of Medicine and Biosciences. It is a medical school and enrolls more than 850 students in a four-year program. The first two years of the curriculum are classroom oriented and focus on the basic of the medical sciences. The last two years focus on training programs of the students. The College of Osteopathic Medicine has a three-semester system, such as fall, spring and summer semesters. It additionally provides postdoctoral training programs for the students. It offers financial aid programs according to the need of the students. The college also provides awards, loans and scholarships for the students. It also has a library and media center that provides books, journals and Internet access. Avila University, founded in 1916 and located in Kansas City, Mo., offers a range of educational and extracurricular programs to students. The university has a student-faculty ratio of 12-to-1, with an average class size of nearly 20 pupils. It has more than 1,700 students and over 60 full-time teachers. The campus comprises 10 buildings, spread over a 50-acre area. Avila University offers 36 undergraduate majors, three graduate programs and three certificate programs. The largest majors offered include business, education, nursing, radiologic science, communication, psychology and art. The institution also offers a number of sports activities, including soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, football, golf and cheerleading. Its library has a collection of more than 70,000 books and over 500 periodicals and newspapers.
