Mathnasium
Mathnasium is a learning center in your neighborhood where students from grade 2 through college go to catch up, keep up, get ahead, and stay ahead in math. This includes TAKS, SAT, ACT, GED, GRE, and GMAT math preparation. Sophisticated assessment shape a customized learning program for each student. Our program is designed to fill in the gaps, to boost their level of confidence, to expand the student's logical thinking and problem solving skills. Our ultimate goal is to develop the student's ability to solve non-routine problems. At each session, passionate, specially-trained and certified instructors provide one-on-one teaching to ensure success. Our method and materials have been developed and proven for over 30 years. Math For Keeps is a method for teaching math so that it sticks. Our focus is on skill acquisition and retention rather than concept presentation. We cull the requisite skills from bigger math concepts and teach you how to practice them so that they stick. This makes the bigger concepts easier and more fun to understand and appreciate. What makes us different, short answer: We make math stick. We get it in your bones. In your muscles. It's that whole Practice to Mastery thing again. You learn it by heart. You learn it for keeps. What makes us different, longer answer: Skill acquisition has many stages. Being shown a skill is just the beginning. There is a long journey from this stage to the one where you have complete ownership, or mastery, of the skill. We have a structured program in place for organizing where skills are along this journey and for providing the ideal type of practice, at the ideal time (this is important), at every stage. We believe that there is a big difference between presenting and teaching. Presenting is showing a skill. You can do this brilliantly and still not have taught it. Teaching a skill is being responsible for the students' understanding and recall of the skill, over the short- AND long-term.
