The Fern Shakespeare Company

The Fern is an Original Practice Shakespeare Company which relocated from Atlanta to Seattle in 2017 (yep we picked up and moved across the country)! We believe Shakespeare is for ALL and we celebrate all races & ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, and disabilities. Shakespeare's works are timeless because they are HUMAN stories. Stories for all of us. Stories of love, loss, tragedy, comedy, and everything in-between. Stories that make you laugh, cry, and think. Stories about you and us. The Fern utilizes Direct Address in our performances--just like Shakespeare's own company did. We speak our text directly to you so we can connect with you on a human level (don't worry--we won't make you stand up or anything like that). We just want to share these plays with you, our audience, rather than act at you. Our production style typically features Gender Neutral casting (which means all parts are open to actors of any gender identity) however we do celebrate our sisters during our Classically Female Series, which features casts and crew who identify as female.
