Wind in the Willows is one of San Francisco's oldest preschools, established in the mid 1970’s. We are a part-day play based program that believes an enriching curriculum (which includes art, music, dance/movement, science and nature, occasional walking/neighborhood field trips and pre-math and pre-reading activities) allow children to learn at their own pace and develop critical social-emotional skills in addition to growing their early literacy, phonics and mathematical skills. We encourage children to be creative in a variety of ways with arts and crafts materials, problem solving activities and in dramatic play with friends. Within our program, there is a designated Pre-K work time, for children who will be entering kindergarten the following school year. This curriculum strand was developed to help children gain skill in large and fine motor areas, as well as pre-reading, writing, math and science. We also have a standard preschool classroom for the younger children who may be entering an early childhood education setting for the very first time. Our program is intentionally designed to be small and intimate, with low student to teacher ratios to allow for stronger bonds and attentive care. Our teaching staff are all experienced and dedicated professionals who believe in the work they do, and put forth their best efforts in providing every single child we serve with a quality care and early education experience.
Our emergent and play-based curriculum fosters compassion, curiosity, and a love of learning. Children share responsibility for themselves and their environment.
We are enrolling aged 2+ years old. We carefully design and arrange our home-like learning environment for our young explorers. Children can feel safe and engage in individualized hands-on activities, e.g. free play, kids yoga, reading moment, dance & music, and art craft, etc. Also, we will have a spacious outdoor learning playground. Fun With Mandarin Preschool is a Progressive Reggio Emilia Influenced Chinese (Mandarin) Immersion preschool and care program for children 18 months through entry into kindergarten in San Francisco. We aim to offer a large variety of deeply-enriching and complete indoor and outdoor experiences to support the comprehensive and linguistic development of children. We seek to work with parents through a strong, supportive community approach to supporting whole-child development. We are located near City College and are conveniently accessible from Highway 280, 101, and 19th Avenue. Our recently-created Capitol Avenue facility consists of over 3,000 square feet of indoor and over 3,200 square feet of outdoor space carefully designed by experts in early childhood education. We are "Reggio Emilia Influenced" in our child-centered and community-supported orientation, at the same time, we seek to integrate the best elements of other philosophies that emphasize project-based and play-based learning together with our knowledge of up-to-date Early Childhood Education concepts to create deeply-enriching learning environments and curriculum. Our hours are 8:15 am to 5:45 pm, Monday through Friday. Children are provided with healthy meals throughout the day that include an am snack, lunch, and pm snack. Our exceptional level of expertise and experience, child-centered focus, and ideal size allow us to emphasize comprehensive development simultaneously with Mandarin immersion.
