Twin Cedars Youth Services is a private nonprofit organization that offers a variety of services to children, youths and families. It specializes in providing residential and education services to adolescent boys and girls and focuses on serving teenage mothers and their babies and sexually traumatized, emotionally disturbed and aggressive youths. The organization operates several community mental health and child advocacy centers and specialized foster care homes. Twin Cedars Youth Services also conducts various teambuilding, leadership, parenting, and pregnancy and child abuse prevention programs. It additionally organizes summer camps and ropes courses, as well as offers outpatient therapy services. The Y.M.C.A. (Young Men's Christian Association)emphasizing Mind, Body & Spirit, was founded in London in 1844. The Y.M.C.A. came to Columbus, GA on November 18, 1856. The Columbus committee (P.H.Colquitt, W.Gesner & S.Boykin), calling themselves "the Committee of the Young Men's Christian Association", invited young men of Columbus to an organizational meeting. Two months later the Association had 30 members & grew to 70 members by July 1857!
