Central Christian Church was founded in 1877. Robert A. Milam, (nephew of " Big Ben" Milam) was the first Pastor listed in 1890, although he and his brother, Collin McKinney and Milam were listed in Galveston since 1870 meeting in private homes, with Dr. J.T. Moore teaching Sunday School. Dr. Moore's old home now has a historical marker. He was a pioneer at UTMB in radiation treatment. C.M. Wilmeth, and R. M. Gano, who came to Galveston as missionaries were second generation Texans, who followed their father's example as evangelist for the Christian Church, with other early Texas pioneers. The specific information on all these Texas heroes can be found at the San Jacinto Monument Library in locked boxes and the Rosenberg Library.
Holy Rosary
Established in 2002, Island Church is a religious institute. It strives to preach the word of God and biblical lessons. Based in Galveston, Texas, the ministries of the church include praise/worship, ushers, greeters, counseling/outreach ministries, Teentorrent, Kidcurrent, Happy Harbor and missions. Island Church has missionaries in several countries and conducts crusades. It offers prayer services, street outreach service, Sunday service and organizes picnics. The church provides nursery care during worship services and the youth music ministries organizes liturgical choir.
