The Norman Police Department, founded in 1919, is a city department that provides law enforcement and other regulatory services, such as crime prevention and investigations, patrolling, drug enforcement and control, and traffic regulation and investigations. The department also intervenes in cases of domestic violence and provides information and assistance to victims. Its investigators interview people, gather documents and evaluate facts related to various crimes. Additionally, the department provides a range of services, such as sex offender information, recovery of stolen property and other information services. The Norman Police Department operates through crime analysis and prevention, patrol and animal welfare divisions.
