The Division of Community & Rural Development is a part of the Iowa Department of Economic Development. The division provides loans and grants for the construction of community facilities. The Iowa Department of Economic Development administers various social, human resource and income maintenance programs. The department conducts business development financial assistance programs that feature tax incentives, as well as employee training solutions. It also administers the State of Iowa combines Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which funds for rehabilitation and new construction projects. The department conducts the Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program, as well as assists international companies to locate in Iowa. It operates the Venture Network of Iowa, which is a statewide forum for entrepreneurs, investors and business advisors.
The mission of the Des Moines Public Works Department is to provide essential infrastructure construction and maintenance, municipal services and mitigation of emergency conditions for the benefit of Des Moines, Iowa, residents and to impact infrastructure and municipal services so its streets, sewers and sidewalks remain sound and serviceable and its environment remains safe and healthy. Public Works handles garbage, recycling, yard waste, appliance pickup, streets, sidewalks, forestry and snow removal.
