The main branch of the Oakland Public Library is one of the Bay Area's largest and is a valuable resource for information and knowledge. The spacious library features a vast collection of printed literary materials alongside DVDs, CDs, audio books, ebooks and other media. Special features include a computer lab, a children's room and the Oakland History Room with rare volumes and books that chronicle the history of the Bay Area. The library also supports a vibrant cultural and educational program featuring story time for kids, concerts, lectures and adult literacy programs. The library is conveniently located by Lake Merritt in Downtown Oakland.
Although the Lakeview Branch is one of the Oakland Public Library's smaller branches, it holds a varied collection of books, CDs, DVDs, audio books, cassettes, magazines and newspapers suitable for every age. The library also features four computer terminals with internet access. The Lakeview Branch is located adjacent to a small park, along the shores of Lake Merritt, and is easily one of Oakland's more scenic libraries. Books and other materials not available at the Lakeview Branch can be sourced from other branches by placing a request online. Storytime for children, knitting groups, book clubs, art exhibitions, cultural events and other activities are often hosted at the library as well. A meeting room with space for up to 25 people can be hired for private use at the library.
