Lilly Endowment is a private philanthropic foundation providing grant funding to charitable organizations throughout Indiana. The endowment supports the causes of religion, education and community development and considers providing grant funding to such causes before considering others. The foundation s community development efforts focus primarily on the quality of life in Indianapolis and Indiana and grants funds for human service needs, central-city and neighborhood revitalization, low-income housing, and arts and culture in and around the Indianapolis area. Lilly Endowment s education efforts seek to improve education and increase the number of Indiana residents with bachelor s degrees. The religious division aims to deepen the spiritual lives of the community. The endowment affords special emphasis to projects that benefit young people and promote leadership education and financial self-sufficiency in the nonprofit, charitable sector. The foundation was created in 1937 by three members of the Lilly family through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company.
Ivy Tech Community College is one of the largest, public post-secondary institutions in Illinois. The college has an enrollment of more than 120,000 students. It has over 20 campuses throughout the state. Ivy Tech Community College offers degrees and certificates in nearly 150 academic programs, including social science, business studies, applied sciences, and fine arts and design. The college also provides disability, academic advising, and career counseling services. Its libraries maintain a selection of books, journals and reference materials. Ivy Tech Community College additionally offers online degree courses in accounting, criminal justice, design technology, office administration and computer information systems. The college owns and manages a college for working adults. It provides work force training programs for approximately 20,000 individuals annually.

One of the famous landmarks of Indianapolis, the President Benjamin Harrison Home was built in the 1870s and is now a museum dedicated to President Harrison. In order to explore his life, the historic building houses artifacts and books belonging to the Harrison family. The chambers have period furniture, the president's personal items, and political memorabilia. The house is also a venue for city events and exhibitions. Tours of the house are held regularly.
