Founded in 1948, the Santa Ana Educators' Association is the exclusive representative of the non-management certificated employees, such as teachers and educational support staff, in the Santa Ana Unified School District. We have about 2600 members and are affiliated with the California Teachers Association and the National Education Association. As a union we negotiate the wages and working conditions of our bargaining unit members as well as help them navigate the local and state bureaucracies. Or mission is to help improve the lives of people living with epilepsy by providing resources, information, support and empowerment through education and advocacy in the prevention, control and cure of epilepsy. One of our main goals is to raise funds to pay for trained seizure alert/response dogs that may be able to detect when someone is about to have a seizure and respond after a seizure by getting help or breaking a fall. These dogs also make it possible for the person with epilepsy to live a more independent lifestyle. Epilepsy will affect every person (directly or indirectly) at some point during their life. There are approximately 32,000 people in Orange County, California affected by epilepsy and nearly 400,000 people with epilepsy and seizure disorders throughout the state of California. Worldwide, there are as many as fifty million people living with epilepsy.
