EmBe is a growing, active community partner offering quality and affordable programs, services and opportunities. EmBe has a history rich in being the first to respond to the needs of area women. In its early years as the YWCA, it was a place for girls and women to gather and learn, a place for young women to live, a place to find safety and shelter from violence, a place to provide childcare and early education for children, a place for women and children to grow and be healthy through fitness and aquatics, and a place to develop leadership skills and find friendships. Over the years, many programs and services from which the community still benefits, were developed.
In partnership with donors, Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation provides philanthropic leadership that assures the quality of life in our area, for good, for ever. When folks ask us what we do, our quick answer is "We help people who want to do something good for the Sioux Falls area." We: Encourage gifts to endowments that benefit virtually every person and family who calls this community home.
Proof of Change Project is a community-driven nonprofit built around turning ideas into real action. We bring people of different ages, backgrounds, experiences, and abilities together to create visible, positive change. Our work includes community cleanups, environmental, water-conservation education, helping people and families, youth involvement, volunteer opportunities, Positive Proof Programs, and partnerships with local individuals and businesses. What makes us unique is our belief that everyone has something valuable to contribute. You don't need a lot of money, special skills, or a certain background to make a difference. In 2016, on the cusp of the 10-year anniversary of Denny Sanfords historic $400 million gift to Sanford Health, the health system committed to building a permanent home to capture the spirit and history of its greatest benefactor and namesake.Supported by the private philanthropy of donors inspired by Mr. Sanfords generosity, construction on the 18,000 square-foot Sanford House began immediately and continued through late 2017. In July 2018, Sanford Health celebrated the official grand opening.Today, visitors of all ages are invited to explore dynamic displays and exhibits that illustrate the far-reaching impact of Mr. Sanfords extraordinary philanthropy, and hopefully open hearts and minds to the transformative power of giving.
