Christ Community Church was founded in 1921, and then known as the Omaha Gospel Tabernacle. The non-denominational church operated from a humble location for several years before the needs of the growing congregation led them to move to their expansive current space at the Old Mill Business Park. Besides worship services, the church actively engages with the community through its numerous programs as well as support groups.

The interiors of First Central Congregational United Church of Christ feature vaulted ceilings with wooden beams, lanterns dangling from long cords and stained glass windows. Based on the ideals of the Plymouth Colony pilgrims, this church is a pioneer among its kind in ordaining a gay man and an African American, and endorses equal rights for couples in homosexual marriages. Besides the usual sermons, choir and sacraments, it organizes classes in music, drama, puppet theater, story telling, dancing and craft work, and runs interactive programs with maps, videos and sketches known as Art Station and Discovery Station. It also houses an art classroom, a library and a gym with exercise lessons. Its varied halls and rooms can be hired for conferences, concerts, weddings and art events.
