The department is one of the largest state child welfare agencies that is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services. It also provides investigation, protection, treatment and identification services against abuse and neglect. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services serves more than 300,000 children and operates various day care centers and group day care homes. Located in Bloomington, Ill., the department provides crisis intervention and financial assistance services. In addition, it offers counseling and institutional substitute care services. The department operates through placement permanency, field operations, finance, service intervention, and planning and performance management divisions.
