He went to New York City, where he completed his orthopedic residency in 1997 at St. Vincent Hospital/Cabrini Medical Center (now St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center) and North Shore University Hospital. During his residency, Dr. Svabek also completed a year of general surgical training, finishing his final training phase with a spine fellowship in 1998 at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
