Somatic Psychotherapy

Sessions are 75 minutes. I offer longer sessions than the typical psychotherapy time because I provide different modalities along with dialogue. Including bodywork; studying how your thoughts relate to gestures and movement; Sandtray; drawing; or EMDR. Plus I just like to provide a little more time in sessions. Somatic psychotherapy is a way of working that supports the brain's development; it is an "experience-dependent" process. And experience takes time. Having experiences, and studying experiences. We study experience by crossing the 'body-mind interface.' Together we study your experience by noticing your thoughts... sensations... feelings... memories... desires... sensations... beliefs... imagination... and how these different aspects of *you* relate and inform each other. Together we seek to strengthen your 'creative resources' (to support you in doing more of what you already do well). And we seek new options for your life and experience. The body is brought into the psychotherapeutic process because thinking is not only an abstract function, it is also expressed physically. The result of working somatically in psychotherapy is an increase in communication between parts -- your brain, heart, breath, muscles, sensing, feeling, and action. This in turn leads to a more engaged and fulfilling life.
