The Surgery Center at TGH Brandon Healthplex specializes in same-day outpatient surgical procedures. The Surgery Center, located on the second floor at the TGH Brandon Healthplex has six operating rooms, two endoscopy suites, 24 pre- and post-procedure bays, and a 13-bed post-anesthesia care (PACU) unit. Our center is designed to meet the needs of both adult and pediatric patients.
Dr. Bernardo Malaga is a dedicated physician with over 25 years of experience in general medicine. He earned his education at the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico and the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, and completed his residency at Hospital Southern Medical Center. Dr. Malaga was drawn to medicine because it allows him to truly listen, understand patients as whole individuals, and make a meaningful difference through knowledge and compassion. He values the opportunity to combine strong clinical expertise with empathy to improve outcomes and enhance quality of life. With a focus on high-quality, preventive, and value-based care, Dr. Malaga emphasizes trust, continuity, and patient education. He works closely with patients to promote healthy lifestyle choices, stay current with recommended screenings and vaccinations, and proactively address risk factors to support long-term health. He also believes in involving families when appropriate to ensure patients feel supported, respected, and confident in their care. In his free time, he enjoys exploring new restaurants and experiencing different cuisines, reading, flying, and traveling.
