Iowa Lutheran Hospital accommodates more than 12,000 inpatient and over 250,000 outpatient admissions every year. Established in 1914 by Swedish-American Lutherans, it houses one of the largest, private hospital-based mental health facilities in Iowa. The hospital also operates the Powell Chemical Dependency Center, which develops treatment programs for chemically affected people.
